Ways to Cut Costs on Your House Remodel
Home remodeling costs can add up fast, here are a handful of ways that you can plan for a cheaper remodel.
If you have already weighed all of your options, and have decided it is better to remodel your home, here are our Vasa Construction LLC tips.
Increase Efficiency, Not Size
If you are able to reorganize and equip your kitchen to ensure maximum efficiency, you may not have to blow out walls in order to gain more square footage. Begin by replacing any space-hogging shelves with cabinet pull-out drawers that are around 8 inches wide, and that contain racks for cans and other such items.
You could shell out a few thousand to outfit your cabinets with upgrades that include dividers, pull-out pot trays, and lazy Susans, however, you will save more by skipping the addition you thought that you needed.
-
Price to expand a kitchen by 200 square feet: $48,000 to $95,000
-
Cost of custom-designed cabinets: $35,000
-
Savings: Up to $60,000
Do Your Own Demo
Knocking down your home is not as costly as rebuilding, so you can shave dollars by doing some of the demo yourself, just so long as you proceed with caution.
For example, if you are looking to demo a deck, that is something most homeowners can do, however, when it comes to interior spaces unless you know what you are doing, this is something we would not recommend.
The reason behind this is a reckless wrecker can often unwittingly take out a load-bearing wall or, worse, hit a live wire with a reciprocating saw.
-
Cost to demo a 200-square-foot deck DIY: $450, including the dumpster rental and parking permit
